Putting trim over siding gap.

In addition a gap of between 1 8 and 1 4 inch between the edge of the siding and the window trim requires treatment as well.
Gap between siding and trim then caulk.
If the trim is being applied over the hardi panels.
Hardie siding requires a minimum 2 gap from all hard surfaces like decks or rooflines and at least 8 from any soft surfaces like grass dirt or gravel.
Apply caulking compounds rated for exterior use when caulking window trim.
I guess it s a new trade since they nail exterior trim over the siding with 7 16 gaps.
Leave a minimum 1 8 in.
It s especially affordable when it placed over existing siding because the labor of removing the old siding is not needed.
There are a few things that you ll need to know when doing this however.
While tight gap siding can be installed from the top down we usually run it from the bottom up.
V joint or 45 degree shiplap is a little trickier.
During my time working for james hardie i very rarely got calls from homeowners that wanted to submit a warranty claim for their hardie siding.
The head flashing is installed in a bed of caulking onto the top of the window frame.
Follow your window door manufacturer s installation instructions for caulking guidance between window and trim.
The wrb is lapped over the head flashing or the flashing is taped.
At the top we install a trim piece either crown molding or a flat stop to close the gap.
On most new homes the trim goes up after the siding is installed which creates a large gap that should not be caulked.
The first is your moving the siding of the house about 3 4 of an inch outward.
It takes a lot of talent to make sure you don t shoot to much caulk inside the trim and they et caulk it perfectly flush with the trim using a special technique.
This works fine most of the time but always add a few blobs of caulking inside the bottom lip of the top course for extra security.
The cement board panels are fastened to the battens.
On tight gap there s no tongue so face nailing is the only option.
Trim boards that sit on top the siding.
The rain screen battens are run down to the top of the window flange.
In the old days the builder would install the trim bring the siding up to it and caulk the corner.
The main difference in the installation instructions from glancing through them both is that the hz10 product is permitted to have the trim installed over the siding while the hz5 product is not.
