Creaking wheezing or popping sounds happen at nighttime due to cooler weather. At night the outdoor temperature lowers and the wood contracts. During the day the wood expands. When it is windy there is a creaking noise from around the edges of the roof area which is heard very distinctly in the bedrooms.

Even the sturdiest floors sometimes require maintenance and repair and slate is no exception. The builder has brought in the roofing contractor who seems to have no idea what is causing it.
